Originally from Detroit, Jason Pierson has lived in Western North Carolina for over 20 years. Jason holds an MFA (in Theatrical Design, Technology, & Management) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a BA (in Communication Arts) from Cedarville University.
Jason’s creative interests range widely, from traditional quilting to bookbinding to collage and beyond. He’s an artistic magpie, gathering materials and knowledge while pulling from different traditions and methods. Much of his work is influenced by the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi: embracing the impermanent, imperfect, incomplete, and unconventional. His material choices are rooted in sustainability and natural process, choosing to uplift the discarded, worn, and undesired over the neat, clean, and new.
Jason serves on the Board of Directors for the Haywood County Arts Council and is a member of the Cold Mountain Art Collective. He lives in Canton, NC, with his husband and an elderly pug.
